Strengthening the Circle of Guardianship and Land Leadership

Julie joins us at a pivotal time—our 10th year of growth, collaboration, and Indigenous-led conservation. With a deep background in environmental stewardship and a strong track record in Indigenous governance and land-based activities, Julie brings both heart and strategic vision to this role. Her leadership will help guide the Guardians Program through its next phase of development, expanding youth mentorship, ecological monitoring, and cultural revitalization across our shared traditional territory.

In this role, Julie will support and mentor the next generation of land stewards, coordinating seasonal field activities like vegetation index surveys, moose yard assessments, and traditional birchbark canoe builds, while anchoring year-round programming in Indigenous knowledge and ceremony. She’ll also be leading Guardian Program integration with our growing partnerships—like our MOU with Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig to deliver accredited, land-based learning.

Julie’s arrival also represents a broader vision at Wahkohtowin: one where Indigenous capacity is nurtured from within, where leadership is relational, and where cultural and ecological responsibilities are honored hand-in-hand.

Please join us in offering a warm welcome (and a round of thanks!) to Julie. We’re excited for what this season will bring, and the years to follow under her guidance.
